Retreat

'"Retreat" shows how African elephants are being crowded into smaller areas by people (symbolized by the light sources around the elephants). The 2 females are protecting the calf and attempting to retreat into the darkness, away from human habitation. I tried many ways of showing this, and decided to paint the view from above, with the different light sources creating confusing and complex shadows.
