Miles Away
Along with another artist, we hired a friend to model for us one afternoon. I love creating paintings that deal mainly with the color "WHITE"! Why? Because in painting, unlike in "real life", "white" can be every color in the rainbow! As this painting shows primarily the warmer tones, since the light that was on the model was in the studio, and not from natural day light, which would have more cool colors if captured in the shade!
Also, since when painting, the brightest you can create is possible almost pure white. And the "'whites" in this are a tad lighter than mid value. So, how does it appear to be "illuminated"? By surrounding this area with darker, richer colors.
An artist only has values from 1 (light) to 10(darkest)...
Understanding our limitations with opaque paint, is the secret to capturing "LIGHT"!!
