In Yosemite National Park, the Mist Trail to Vernal Falls provides one sighting after another of tree groupings, rock clusters, streaming waterfalls and soaring mountaintops. Looking down below the trail, I glimpsed the Merced River rushing among the rocks on its way to the plain, the waters and rocks raw and powerful.
