A Lone Wake

As a resident of Maine, I have fallen in love with the Loon. How they swim, how they call, how they care for their young is all mesmerizing to witness. I have set out to capture the power and peace these birds carry with them in my latest painting. Using thick layers of acrylic paint to create texture and spray paint to generate highlight and depth, I have created a scene that displays ruggedness in nature that is presented in a street art style. Using multiple customized cutout paint rollers, I was able differentiate between air and water. I used similar layering techniques to create unique abstract stems and flowers. The centerpiece loon was created by a multilayered hand cut stencil using a base of acrylic paint with spray on top to created its unique look.
