Cape Spear NL
The Cape Spear lighthouse is often enveloped in a cold damp Atlantic fog. Tourists come for the view but often find themselves in a soundscape, where the sound of ocean swells; from below and beyond the rocky edge, drown out their whispered conversations. The building, path and figures are placed on the diagonal. This painting is about how fog changes our perception of buildings and space. It seems that you could tumble off the rounded horizon. I used subtle changes in colour temperature and value to create this “soundscape”.
