The midday September sun was breaking over this church in Falls Church, VA, built in the early 1900s, and the rectory. The light beaming onto the flags and steps on the rectory caught my eye. I painted this entirely en plein air, and as I was painting it, I loved the light that peeking through the stained-glass windows and also reflecting the yellow papal flag. Many locals were walking past to get to the 12-noon mass.
