Beyond the Ranch Gate

I was raised on a ranch in South Texas, so the Texas landscape is so special to me. While driving on the way back from the Plein Air Convention in Denver in May of this year, my husband and I were on a highway near Mason, Texas (Central Texas) and came upon this scene by the side of the road. I had to stop! I took photos and notes (my art gear was in the back of the SUV and hard to get to!). I came home to Austin and immediately began painting this scene! Reminds me of my childhood!
