Mondello Beach: A Slice of Paradise
I painted this watercolor plein air on a hot and windy October day at Mondello Beach, a beautiful seaside resort in Sicily, Italy. I was captivated by the contrast between the bright blue and white umbrellas on the sand and the white buildings with orange roofs and palm trees behind them. I wanted to capture the feeling of this slice of paradise, where the sun, the sea, and the breeze create a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere. I used loose and impressionistic strokes to convey the movement of the wind and the water. This painting is a reminder of the wonderful day I spent in Mondello, exploring the picturesque village and enjoying the beach. The beach is my favorite place to paint, as I love the warmth of the sun on my skin, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, the sight of relaxed and happy people, and the sensation that time does not matter. For me, time on the beach is somehow special, because I enter a kind of other timeless dimension, where daily life feels far away and I can focus on the beauty of the moment.
