Morning on the River

This is a plein air piece that I painted, standing on the banks of the Swannanoa River, near my home, in Asheville NC. It was a warm summer morning, so I knew it would be cooler and a pleasant place to paint. As I started I thought to myself "this is the most challenging subject I've tried because of all the trees, rocks and water." I kept telling myself "Simplify, Simplify Simplify." I think there's a nice rhythm to the shadows and the water. I'm happy with the results I achieved.
