Women on Guard

In 2022, Kapsner completed Women on Guard, a 4 X 5 foot painting showcasing the multi-layered stories of five diverse women from the Minnesota National Guard and their roles aside from the Guard—not separate from one another, but melded together. This painting honors their cultural and ethnic diversity, while revealing “stories within the story”. Many eye-opening stories came about throughout the yearlong process while each of the women visited his studio and sat for their individual portraits (which Kapsner presented as a gift to each upon completion).
In 2023, the painting became part of the permanent collection of the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum in Little Falls, MN.
